About the Department
Department of Mathematics is one of the academic units in the College of Natural Sciences. Currently, The Department of Mathematics at Mattu University (MaU) has been running a BSc degree program in mathematics since 2004 E.C and MSc degree program in mathematics since 2011 E.C in the regular, weekend and summer-inservice programs. To date, the Department has produced a lot of competent mathematicians, a great many of whom are currently serving in various higher learning institutions both in the country. The department also launched a PhD program in Applied mathematics in the year 2015 E.C. The Department of Mathematics is the first department in Mattu University to open a PhD program.

Vision
The Department of Mathematics aspires to be a prominent mathematical center committed to the advancement and dissemination of mathematical knowledge as well as to train motivated and responsible mathematicians to contribute towards the scientific and technological development of the country.
Mission
One of the missions of MaU is to ensure continues enhancement of human resources and in particular to produce qualified professionals who are capable to meet global development needs using innovative approaches. The Department of Mathematics provides excellent teaching, research, and service to the university community, to the surrounding community and to the country at large as well.
